Sorry I’ve been away for 5 days, I was day to day with a lower body injury.
I’ve received a lot of e-mail about whether or not the Leafs will rebuild or reload. To be honest, last year was the beginning of the rebuild. Did the Leafs look like they were going for it all in ’08-09? Judges ruling………..no they didn’t.
Brian Burke said it best yesterday about the out look for 09-10. “I’m not watching that again” in reference to the play of last year’s team. Good to hear, I don’t want to watch it either.
Brian Burke is the NHL’s version of the Dos Equis guy.
Oren Koules and Len Barrie had to report to Principal Bettman’s office yesterday. I wonder if he suggested that one of them buys the Coyotes? That would be a good peace making scenario.
Somebody e-mailed me about my summer movie selections and inquired about Field of Dreams. Good call on that one, but FOD is a mid to late August viewing because the corn is fully grown in the film. If you don’t like that, then you can make like what they told Ty Cobb. This weeks selection is Jaws, the original, as the movie is all about having the beaches open for July 4th so it’s a good time for that one. Write that down.
I was doing some research the other day and noticed that the first goal in Senators history was scored by Neil Brady. He was a 3rd overall pick by NJ in 1986. He scored a total of 9 career goals. It just goes to show you that the draft is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get.
Are the Islanders going to take Hedman on Friday? I say yes. Your call on whether or not you want to write that down.
Sutter hires Sutter. It’s not the first time we’ve had a GM/Head Coach brother combo. Bryan Murray hired Terry in Florida back in 1998.
Mike Babcock looking to join the Triple Gold club (Olympic Gold, Worlds Gold and Stanley Cup). He’ll be anointed tomorrow as Head Coach of Canada at the Olympics. Hitchcock is a lock as assistant coach and I would also go with Lindy Ruff and Barry Trotz.
On the subject of Olympic sports. The two man luge. Is it a sport? Or 2 minutes of, that looks uncomfortable.
Offside
Government workers are on strike in Toronto. I know when transit goes on strike it’s deemed an essential service and they get sent back to work. How about when it’s 35C(95F) and garbage is piling up everywhere. Shouldn’t garbage pick up be deemed an essential service? I’m thinking yes. A stinky Toronto is offside.
PS
I've given up on twitter. If you want to know what I think about something at any given moment. E-mail me kevingibson@rogers.com. It's a lot easier that way.
