NHL awards are tonight. I heard that Jim Balsillie bought the awards show and is moving it to Hamilton.
I wonder if Lidstrom and Crosby will shake hands tonight? Good to see Ovechkin taking Crosby’s side in this “the guy just won the Stanley Cup, give him a break” Only thing missing from the sentence was a “I swear to God”
Good news for Mike Green is that the Norris Trophy voting happened before the playoffs. So like Lloyd Christmas, he’s got a chance.
I like Steve Mason to win the Calder by a landslide. He’ll lose the Vezina to Tim Thomas. Speaking of Vezina, do you know how many kids Georges Vezina had? He could put a team in the UEFA Cup.
Ovechkin will win the Hart. Sorry Evgeni, but I just can’t see Ovechkin losing. Although the voting on NHL.com has it as a close race at blog time, but those votes aren't factored in obviously, but I think Ovechkin wins by a fair bit.
Tomorrow my wife and I celebrate 10 years of wedded bliss. Which is also 10 years to the day of the Brett Hull foot in the crease goal in Buffalo (we had a TV at the reception). Since 10 years is a monumental occasion, I’m going full out on a gift for the wife. I’ll get her an authentic Leafs jersey instead of a replica. No card though, jersey costs enough. A nice post it on the jersey, that says class, write that down.
I heard the rumours about the Leafs trading White and Stempniak for Clarkson. Stempniak is an American, so obviously Lamoriello would have interest there. The Leafs are so thin on the blue line, no way I trade White. The guy played great when he was in the line up and even filled in at forward and also picked up a silver medal at the Worlds. He’s a keeper.
Since the NHL is in Vegas tonight, I’d like to see Wayne Newton and Tom Jones do a duet of the good ol’Hockey Game. Stompin Tom Connors could maybe do a song with Celine Dion or an Elvis Impersonator.
William Fichtner will be presenting an award tonight. All summer long I’ll be suggesting fine summer flicks. In honour of Mr. Fichtner, I’ll suggest one of his movies. Drowning Mona. It’s a dark comedy as they call it. Fichtner is great in it, really funny. Check it out. It has a great cast. Take a look at it over at IMDB.
As I wrote this blog, three more Blue Jays pitchers were put on the DL. What extra pitchers do the A’s have that JP Ricciardi can trade for.
I have no idea where Dany Heatley will end up. I’ll toss out my customary, “That’s interesting” once a deal is done. I’ll tell you where he won’t end up. Toronto, Phoenix or Atlanta. You can write that down.

I made reference to Lloyd Christmas above. I shall borrow from him again. Remember he said this “Hey yeah, that John Denver’s full of poop” After a cold, wet, May and June thus far. I have to use the same line with Al Gore. Global warming my buttocks. McDonald’s needs to bring back those containers that mess up the ozone, let’s warm this place up. Here’s hoping we need sunblock 50 for the summer, because I can imagine that most people east of the Mississippi haven’t used much lately.
