Some quick notes:

Trade rumors, as our Columbus blogger Eric Smith has already mentioned in an excellent blog, is starting to increase for Doug Weight.

Per Greg Logan of Newsday, back from his vacation:
"According to an NHL source, Isles general manager Garth Snow is seeking draft picks for center Doug Weight, who has attracted trade interest from several clubs."

This is hitting a lot of back channels suddenly from rumor to major outlets, which might mean Garth Snow is running some sort of auction for his services, trying to drive up value. Weight is having a boffo year, and many teams seem in line for a savvy vet playmaker. This has gone from internet rumor straight to hot item on LI in very little time, which means where there is smoke, there is a GM looking to hook something.

Rick DiPietro started back on Friday, with the Isles responding with a excellent effort and win versus Toronto. However he did not make the trip due to him straining his groin. However, it remains to be seen that it was not just a paperwork move to be able to bring back Yann Danis from Bridgeport. Howie Rose brought up that during the telecast. HOWEVER, per many who watched the game, and it was noted in Chris Botta's Islanderpointblank comment section that The Rick might have had it happen during the game.

Today will be the real litmus test for Ricky's groin, so to speak. If he is not playing or activated for tonight's game versus the rival Rangers, then what I wrote concerned about desperation on Friday here becomes prescient. It was foolish, despite the win, to throw any goaltender to the wolves, even if he wants to play.

Meanwhile, more importantly, despite the loss with Joey MacDonald back in net in Buffalo, it is clear a different and more cohesive team is playing these game lately, despite the shootout loss. Whoever is in goal, the defense must continue, and the offense must create pressure to put the team in position to win. Moreover, they need to stop with the penalties, which was the difference in Buffalo.

NOTE: Unfortunately, those who were looking forward to a Sibling Rivalry piece or live blog will have to wait til the Jan 13th Rangers @ Isles. Sorry folks.
