Isles Source: Lighthouse Project Start Date Likely 2010

Word is that things are moving along, despite hot air from the league, the 'pass-the-buckisms' of Nassau Exec Tom Suozzi and Town of Hempstead's Kate Murray and a cacophony of silence from Charles Wang and Scott Rechler on the Lighthouse Project. Despite the fears by fans with the ignorant outside LI press holding onto the NHL's words thinking that the Isles were candidates to move or that the project was tanking...it is not. Things since have been moving along. The only caveat is that the start time in 2009 is very much in doubt.

SOURCE: "They're very encouraged by what's going on and say that most of these delays are, as you and I have speculated, for statutory reasons . . . They think it's a little slim now that things will be cleared up in time for this summer, but they do plan on going full-bore as soon as the 2010 season ends, worst-case."

With this season on a downward spiral, but a very important draft coming up, the Lighthouse Project is alive and well and working out the state issues which are one of the largest impediments to a project of this size. All the previous hub-bub seems to be those getting antsy due to that the fear that they were going to miss that 2009 summer "shovel in the dirt" start date. Unfortunately, that date seems to not be realistic, despite an attempt to put pressure on all parties behind-the-scenes.

That all said, not quite full-speed ahead, but all is on track for a likely 2010 start, which might coincide better with a realistic turnaround for the Islanders organization on-ice.

When asked for a comment, I was told that by a source at the Lighthouse Project:
"Lighthouse stands by the Summer of 2009 start date"

We shall see what happens.

MEANWHILE . . .

The Isles are the hobbling team. Trent Hunter and Doug Weight join the walking wounded with "groin strains". Per Greg Logan, they will be examined today.

This is most of the Isles offense here.

They join Mike Sillinger (also groin), Andy Sutton (broken foot in Minny), Frans Nielsen, Bruno Gervais, Radek Martinek, Nate Thompson, and of course, Rick DiPietro who is still practicing for his return.
