Duel of the goalies

It's that time of year again folks..... another goaltending issue has come to the forefront. Now this time round it isn't a bad thing, or is it?

For so many years we have struggled to find the right goaltender to take this team to the next level. We have had our share with the likes of Potvin, Skudra, Cloutier, Auld and so many others over the years. All these goaltenders have been part of the Canucks GOALIE GRAVEYARD. They just never met the expectations of the fans and media. Now however we aren't dealing with this problem anymore. We have opened up an entirely different can of worms.....

It seems to me that this city will never be satisfied with our goaltending. We will always want someone different or not give someone a true chance. Luongo has been unreal for this team. Without him we would not even be close to a playoff spot right now. However it seems that people now think that a new goalie is going to take the reigns away from Louie. Am I hearing things right??? Are our fans seriously ushering Luongo out of this city already?

So our attention is now turned to Cory Schneider. This kid is truly a superb prospect for this team and could be a star goalie in a few years. Does this mean he is our next goalie saviour? Absolutely not! This kid has only played in 1 NHL game and people are already drooling over him and whispering that maybe we shouldn't keep Luongo past his contract. This is absurd. Luongo has done everything he can for this team. He has stood on his head night after night but it still isn't enough. What will it take for us to be satisfied with who we have instead of so easily handing the reigns to a young, unproven goalie. The only thing he is right now though is trade bait.

Part 2 to come......
