In a real entertaining afternoon game, the high scoring Avalanche were victorious against the struggling Dallas Stars
This game had everything a hockey fan would want to see, 3 fights, a lot of goals, some nice saves and a crazy nail biter ending. The Avs seemed to have the game in control after the second period but Dallas came out flying the third and the Avs had difficulty clearing the zone and keeping up
Raycroft probably wanted the second goal back but other than that he was just good enough to get his second victory. He didn’t play amazing but got the job done. He made some key saves at the key times, more than what Budaj did in his starts. The more Rayzor plays the more comfortable he will get. At the end of the day he still has the 2 victories for the Avs. He ties his win total from last year. Not sure if his play really justifies him to be the true number one, but at this stage I think the Avs have to keep playing him. He hasn’t played many games over the past year so it will take time for him to reach his true form. I still feel he is a number one goalie in this league. Let’s see how this plays out
I really liked Wolski’s game today; he is just going to continue to get better. The way he battled on Tucker’s goal to create the two on one showed his strength and desire. Remember he is still only 22 years old.
The Altitude announcers came up with a nickname for the Cody Mac’s and Lappy line as the “Punch” line. This name came about since all three got in fights today. All faired well although Lappy got the worst of it at the beginning of the fight but battled back.
The Avs lucked out on the disallowed goal, which was ruled to have hit Morrow’s glove and directed in. They’ll take it. Watching the game really confirmed to me of how valuable of a player Brendan Morrow is. He works hard every shift and really knows how to play the game the way it should be.
The positives of the game were definitely the scoring and the continued solid play of Stastny, Sakic ,Hejduk and Smyth. The scary part of this game was how the Avs allowed Dallas back in the game. They have to find a way to shut down the opponent when they are up by 3 goals.
Also, the Avs announced
