Kyle mcLaren has cleared waivers. Expect more news on the veteran D-man later today.

Chicago Claim Doug Janik.

Islanders claim Nate Thompson

Blues Clues!

Patrik berglund Will switch from 58 to 21 to start the season.

From earlier....

Sources tell me San Jose D-man Kyle Mclaren will likely be traded by the 3:00 (eastern)

roster deadline on Wednesday.

The Sharks are over the cap and must trim salary by tomorrow's deadline.

McLaren has a no-trade and obviously will dictate where he goes. A team could claim him off waivers if the club is certain he wants to play there.

The Sharks are in a position in which they have to eliminate payroll and with the off-season additions of Dan Boyle and Rob Blake McLaren and his 2.5 million salary has become expendable. The Sharks are looking to acquire draft picks or future considerations more than a body.

San Jose has been trying to move Mclaren for several weeks and waiving him this morning was a simple formality.

McLaren's agent has contacted several clubs where he would accept a trade including the St. Louis Blues.

The Blues will probably hold off and go with what they have on defense although the fact that the Blues wouldn't have to give up any bodies makes things a little interesting.

The latest on Brendan Shanahan is that he hopes to either sign with the Rangers or another team by the end of the week, The Rangers have not told Shanahan to pursue other options.

Blues Clues!

Dan Hinote is wishy washy on whether or not he will be available for the season opener this Friday. He suffered a serious slice on his thigh a week ago this past Saturday in Dallas and required at least 50 stitches.

Speaking of Hinote, he visited the FBI building today to tape a feature that will be available on NHL.com soon.

There will also be a feature on Brad Boyes as well on NHL.com in the coming days. The Boyes feature shows him doing some maintenance work around the house.

D-man Jonas Junland wants to play this week but it is very doubtful that will happen. It would probably make sense to have him go down to Peoria to play at least a game or two before he's inserted into the NHL lineup. He has missed nearly the entire pre-season with a shoulder injury. Junland is feeling much better and has done a nice job of getting his conditioning in order after being off the ice for a few weeks.

T.J. Oshie and Patrik Berglund have purchased a condo and moved in with each other for the season.

Both Oshie and Berglund will be my guests tonight at Johnny Mac's in Sunset Hills on Watson from 6-7 for my Blues Buzz radio show on Team 1380.

More to come,'
