The Post Gazette's Shelly Anderson is reporting updates on a couple stories that I talked about in the blog I posted yesterday...

First of all, the Penguins beat Jokerit 4-1 this afternoon...the team got goals from Evgeni Malkin, Ruslan Fedotenko, Tyler Kennedy and Pascal Dupuis. Sidney Crosby notched 3 assists in the game and Dany Sabourin/Marc Andre Fleury split the goaltending duties down the middle.

The Penguins have officially placed Ryan Stone on Waivers. I assume that means they could not work out a trade with anyone around the league and are comfortable with losing him if it were to happen. Stone was tabbed as a pre-season favorite to earn a roster spot this year, only to come up short for a third consecutive season.

The team also officially announced Evgeni Malkin and Brooks Orpik as Alternate Captains for the upcoming season. I have not received confirmation that Malkin's "A" will float as talked about yesterday but will keep you posted.

Lastly, Sergei Gonchar went through successful arthroscopic surgery on his damaged left shoulder today.
