Khabibulin ON Waivers (E5) Buzzcast Live at 5pm

According to my sources, the Blackhawks have placed goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin on waivers.

This could very well be a situation where the Hawks are trying to move Bulin without taking any money back in return. If he clears, it is still entirely possible that, like Schneider, the Hawks are going to move Khabibulin. When I looked into some sources around Bulin last night, I was told that the Hawks may be trying to package him and a "blue chip defensive prospect" to the East.

I have been hearing all week that the Hawks, stacked with over ten million dollars worth of starting goalies, were quite impressed with the young Anti Niemi. In fact this week I have heard three times from inside sources that Niemi, who some compare to Kiprusoff, has been out and away the best goalie in camp.

"Incredibly quick down low," a source said of Niemi, "and very mature."

Another source: "Much better than any of us thought...adds an intriguing option."

I am told that Niemi was informed prior to the weekend that this would be his debut...

According to a source this morning, a lack in scoring has led the Rangers to seek offensive help by possibly packaging a few prospects for a proven scorer "should Sundin not be heading to NY."

From the source, "The Rangers are a young team, but they are a team that needs a solid direction up front."

Another trusted source said the Rangers lack snipers and are too heavy with playmakers...

I really feel the Rangers need to abandon the Sundin Quest before it hurts their season. Sign Shanahan. I know he is not the answer, but he could be part of the answer.

On Khabibulin and Niemi....

We will see.

VIDEOS FROM THE SPECTRUM TODAY

WALKING UP

JULIE FROM HER SEATS

I have a list of about 20...but here are the top five...

#1: 1987 Game 6 Stanley Cup Final vs. The Edmonton Oilers.

Still the most exciting game I have ever attended live anywhere. Absolute insanity. What I always remember was thinking going into the last period at least I would get to see the Stanley Cup skated around the ice. The Oilers were looking that dominant, and just look at the players on that team. Instead I felt part of a stadium that was just off its rocker. Winning game 6 and taking the best team to ever be put together led by the best player to ever play the game to a seventh game. I wasn’t there when they won the Cup, but this feeling must have been pretty close.

The two Youtube videos below show the events that turned this into my favorite Spectrum moment.

#2 Ron Hextall Scores.

I told the story before, but I almost didn’t go. I was stuck babysitting for a neighbor and were it for cell phones I would have blown this game off. I arrived midway through the second period mainly because I couldn’t tell my friend meeting me at the game that I wasn’t going to be able to make it. These were the days that if you were meeting someone somewhere like this you either showed up or they were going to send the police out for you! (Do I sound old?)

Anyway, as my buddy will attest, I called the Hextall goal about 30 seconds before hand.

#3: The Pelle Lindbergh Memorial Game.

This one is in my top ten for all the wrong reasons. These two teams had just played in the year before in the playoffs. Gretzky, the year before, gave the highest praise for Pelle. Lindbergh was my favorite player of all time. Still believe the #31 needs to hang in the rafters. No one has ever worn it since, and no one will anyway.

The Flyers were on a crazy streak going into this game having won 10 in a row. The Oilers offered to postpone the game. Darren Jensen played out of his head and the Flyers somehow won this game.

In my office hangs a giant painting of Lindbergh. Where did I get that painting?

It is an amazing story.

As I walked through the Spectrum parking lot the night of this first game after Pelle’s tragic death I was stopped by a stranger who saw me in my Lindbergh jersey and said, “I am looking for a Lindbergh fan” He opened up the trunk of his car and said “I painted this, but I can’t keep it,” He handed me the rolled up canvas.

My mom and I were stunned. Wherever you are. Thank You.

#4-#10

#4 Eric Lindros's First NHL Game. All the hype, and he won the game on this goal, 50 seconds in...

#5. Dave Poulin 2-Men Short...
