There was a scary incident last week involving Dynamo Riga starting goaltender Edgars Masalskis, who was brutally robbed and assaulted by a group of thugs.

After a home game against Nizhny Novgorod, Masalskis met up with the rest of the team at a restaurant in town. Shortly after leaving the restaurant, Masalskis was jumped and robbed by a group of attackers. The 28-year-old Latvian goaltender suffered a broken ankle in the assault. The men are still at large, although police continue to investigate.

Masalskis will be out of action for several months. He was KHL goaltender of the week during the second week of the regular season and a nominee for goaltender of the month.
