The Penguins conducted a conference call with Marc Andre Fleury this afternoon. Here are couple of quotes from the Penguins goalie in regard to his new deal and free agency in general:

"This is where I wanted to be. This was the goal I told my agent. I love the team, I love the organization and I love the city."

"Sid agreed to a 5 year extension, so did Malkin...I wanted to stick around with these guys."

On signing his deal:

"I think it is some stress off of the shoulders."

On losing Hossa:

"It's always tough to lose a guy like Hossa. He was great in the room and a very talented guy."

In general, Marc seemed excited about keeping Orpik and being a part of this team for years to come. He praised the organization, his teammates and the city. Staying here for the long haul was very important to him.

More in a bit...

* * * * *

Marc Andre Fleury has agreed to a contract with the Penguins. The deal calls for 7 year at $5 mil per season. Another huge keep for Ray Shero...the core is definitely intact...

Internet reports also have the Penguins agreeing to terms with Miroslav Satan and Ruslan Fedotenko... this is being reported by RDS and NHL Live...

Edit: Apparently one years deals for $3.5 and $2.25 respectively...

More on this soon...

These aren't the sexiest signings the Penguins have ever made, but they will fill the void at an affordable price.

Miro Satan has the ability to score goals and he should be able to do that with Sidney Crosby. He is a bit long in the tooth, but still has some upside, especially on a one year deal.

Ruslan Fedotenko can do a lot of thing for a team. He can play a defensive role, but also has the ability to score goals. He notched 16 last season...that should increase playing with the young centers of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Each player will benefit on the power play as well...

These players will not make us forget Marian Hossa, but they will be nice stop gap players until their are more players available during next year's UFA period.

The most important signing of the day is Marc Andre Fleury. It is great to see the team lock up another vital cog long term and at an affordable rate. Fleury will be instrumental in the team's long term success...

More as it happens...

PITTSBURGH PENGUINS RE-SIGN MARC-ANDRE FLEURY

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury to a seven-year contract, it was announced today by Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero.

"At a young age, Marc-Andre has established himself as one of the elite goaltenders in the game," Shero said. "He is coming off a tremendous performance in the playoffs and he was one of the main reasons we reached the Stanley Cup Final. It's great news for the Penguins organization and our fans to continue to sign our core group of young players.”

Fleury, 23, posted a 19-10-2 record, along with a 2.33 goals-against-average and .921 save percentage which tied for fourth in the NHL. Fleury has won 10-straight starts on home ice during the regular season dating back to November 24th.

Fleury won his first seven playoff starts and 11 of the first 12 games, leading the team to the Stanley Cup Final. He recorded three shutouts becoming the first Penguins goaltender to earn three shutouts in a single playoff season. "Miroslav brings skill, experience and size to our hockey team," Shero said. "He is a player that has put up very good offensive numbers in the NHL. By playing with our core group of forwards he should only be able to build upon those numbers and provide offense for our hockey club."

The 6-3, 195-pound right forward has recorded 25-or-more goals in nine of his 12 seasons and scored 30-or-more goals on four occasions. He posted a career-high 40 goals during the 1998-99 season and a career-high 75 points (26 goals, 49 assists) during the 2003-04 season, both with Buffalo. He has appeared in 80-or-more games in eight NHL seasons, including in each of the past four years.
