You Say You Want a Constitution?

As written earlier in the day, after years of trying to track it down, I finally managed to obtain a copy of the NHL Constitution yesterday and posted a few sections that may be relevant to the Boots Del Biaggio situation. Out of respect for the parties that were mentioned in my posting today I've temporarily removed the post while I attempt to contact them for comments on the story.

I've received quite a few requests to distribute the document and I cannot provide it, nor will I post it in its entirety. What I will do however is use the information contained in the Constitution to critically evaluate the actions of the League and its Members to ensure that it is being followed and that the integrity of the league and interests of the fans are at the core of every critical decision that is made.

Those who have read this space before know that I'm not a journalist by trade and have no formal training in that area. I certainly understand how the 'real' writers sometimes have problems with what we do because we don't have to go through layers of editors and fact-checkers and sometimes they end up having to chase a story because of a rumour or comment that has been posted online.

While I've never been afraid to express an opinion on a player, team, executive or business issue I do want to make sure that what we're doing here is being done respectfully and doesn't affect the reputation of the site or its writers.

The most important thing in regards to your comments is that you evaluate the actions, not the individuals. These are complex issues that we're talking about (well above my pay-scale) and we only have a small percentage of the information needed to make an educated decision. That is why my goal is often to just lay out the facts as I know them and allow you to decide what to think.

So stay tuned for much more in these interesting times...

Thanks for your patience,

Danny – [email protected]
