Still think the NHL doesn't take the internet seriously? This is a potentially huge story that could allow the NHL to force out MSG as an owner of the Rangers. I find it extremely improbable that the the NHL would kick out MSG who is the biggest TV contract the league has to my knowledge...but they are flexing some serious muscle...

The NHL is starting to feel some strength....

****OFFICIAL NHL PRESS RELEASE*******

NEW YORK (June 19, 2008) -- The National Hockey League today filed a
counterclaim against Madison Square Garden, L.P. (“MSG”) seeking a
declaration from the Court authorizing the Board of Governors to proceed
with disciplinary proceedings against the ownership of the Rangers for
material breaches of the team’s contractual commitments to the League and
the other 29 Member Clubs, as well as for compensatory damages stemming
from those breaches. The counterclaim was filed in the U.S. District Court
for the Southern District of New York.

MSG previously has lost a motion for a preliminary injunction to
prevent migration of the Rangers’ website to the NHL’s common technology
platform and lost a subsequent motion for a stay of the District Court’s
ruling pending appeal. MSG’s expedited appeal of the District Court’s
ruling on the preliminary injunction to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals
was denied.

The League will have no further comment while the case is before the
Court.
