Just checking in from the road...I had to head out of town for a couple of days before the Stanley Cup Final. I will be back in town for all the game action and to take part in the euphoria that is running wild through the Pittsburgh area. Just wanted to get you all a few news, notes and happenings...

First of all, the Penguins will indeed be opening the Mellon Arena for the first two games of the series in Detroit. It was speculated about and I am glad that they have decided to make this a reality. Other teams have done this on their run to the Stanley Cup and it should be a thrill for all fans to be in the Mellon Arena taking in all of the road action. Parking is free and admission to the building is a $5 donation to the Mario Lemieux Foundation. Get your butts down there to support the Penguins and a great cause!

Word is that Johan Franzen will play in the series, but is doubtful for game one. Gary Roberts has been skating with the team, but not with any of the top four units. Hopefully Scary Gary works himself into being able to suit up for a game or two...he has waited a LOOONG time to get back to the Stanley Cup Final and it would stink for him to miss out on playing.

I have also been feeling a bit bad about Darryl Sydor. It has to be awfully tough for a two time cup winner to sit out and watch all that has happened this spring. He could get into the line-up if there were to be an injury, but if it isn't broken, do not fix it!

We are about 15 minutes away from a rally in Market Square in downtown Pittsburgh. If you are in the downtown area, take your lunch break and head down there...NOW! The City and County have been very supportive of the Penguins throughout the season and have made a habit of holding these sorts of functions!

I will be out and about throughout the day, but will check in later tonight. Keep the City rocking and show the world how great a sports town Pittsburgh is!
