Rubbish in Philly

I was reading a column in the Philadelphia Daily News and was astounded at how much of a whiner the writer was. And in my experience, Flyers fans are the farthest thing from whiners.

Here is the column followed by my thoughts on the whole thing.

After reading Sam’s piece, I have to ask: Sam…Is this something you wrote to be inflammatory or do you really feel this way?

Because if you truly believe the NHL has some kind of bias towards Canadian teams, I ask you the following questions:

1) How on earth did the Calgary Flames and Ottawa Senators not make it through to round 2? (I guess that would be too obvious)

2) Why are the NHL’s main offices (the ones where the Commish sits) located in NYC and not Toronto?

3) Why did Jim Balsillie get shut out of buying the Predators in what would have led to moving the franchise to Hamilton, Ontario?

4) Why would the NHL want the Flyers out and the Canadiens in? Especially given the fact
that this season, the Flyers have had 25 Canadian-born players on their roster while the
Candiens have only had 18.

You sound like a whiny fan who gives but one side of the story. And to be honest, if that is how you chose to write, I guess that is your prerogative.

I just wish you’d have talked about Vaclav Prospal reaching out from the players bench to hit Mike Komisarek. Or Carey Price swatting Mike Richards. Or Richards smacking Jaroslav Halak in the head.

I would have liked you to explain why Hatcher got 5 for boarding; because it was a violent, dangerous hit in which he propelled Bouillon’s head into the glass.

One more thing….the Canadiens are far from being Canada’s team. While there are some knuckleheads out there that still believe the Stanley Cup belongs to Canada, most of us are a little more enlightened.

Besides, there are two things you should know about me:

1) There is only one team I want to see win a Cup and that’s the Senators, my favorite team. Once they are done, may the best team win…as long as it’s not Toronto.

2) I have developed a bit of a “pulling for Philly” streak in me….I love how they battle, how
they play big and how they make no apologies. But they also make no excuses; and
neither do their real fans.
