- Avs go with same lineup
-
David Jones is in the lineup and is looking good early, he set up Smyth early in the game but was stopped by Backstrom
- Stastny Receives a minor for highsticking
Keith Carney, could have easily been a double minor
- Theo looks sharp with his rebound control on the powerplay.
-
Andrew Brunette scores off a rebound off Backstrom's pad. A nice play by Wolski to open some ice up for Sakic who took a quick shot and no Wild player was anywhere near Brunette who finished for the goal. Sakic's qiuck release made Backstrom have to kick out his pad and allow a rebound
- Avs on back to back PP's. With Sakic, Forsberg, Hejduk on the ice all at once.. The Avs have to take advantage with the man advantage
- Avs fourth line shows some intensity after a failed powerplay. Guite was practically tackled in front of the Wild net. A good job to end the period as the Wild were gaining momentum after killing off two powerplays in a row.
Overall a solid first period. The powerplay (as the story has been most of the season) didn't look as crisp as needed, but scoring the first goal is huge.
Ruslan Salei lead all Avs players with Ice time logging 7min30sec
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Start of Second
- Voros of the Wild decides to bump into Theodore with no Av around. A no brainer call for the Ref. Avs back on the PP.. Come on guys, time to get one here!!
- Finally a better powerplay, looked more controlled and had three good chances, two by Arnason. They have ANOTHER opportunity as Gaborik takes another penalty. They really need to get one, how many chances are they going to get?
- No goals scored on the Avs PP, and almost the worst thing happened with the Wild getting a great opportunity to score shorthanded. Nice save by Jose. We will have to see if the lack of PP scoring will come and haunt the team at the end of the game
- Guite off for 2 minutes after slashing Backstrom. The Boogey Man, Lappy and McLeod start talking.
- After watching Hill's tackle on Forsberg, I am thinking he may be getting ready for the Vikings Training camp. Wasn't he suspended by the NHL for performance enhancing drugs?
- The Wolski-Sakic-Brunette Line is by far the best line tonight at Excel. Wild on PP
- Backstrom saves the day at the horn ending the second.
The Avs PP struggle continues. It was more of a cautious period played by both teams. I thought that the Avs began to look a little tired in their own zone when the Wild put pressure. Theo looks sharp and will be counted on big time in the third. The Avs can't sit back on this one goal lead. Let's see if they can get the fans in the game by a quick PP goal at the start of the third.
Adam Foote is the high man in minutes for the Avs with 15min8sec
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Start of Third
- The Avs again couldn't capitalize on a PP chance. The PP struggle continues
- The Wild score on a goal by Koivu. He was left untouched in front of Theo after receiving a pass from Fedoruk from behind the net. The Avs were caught looking around and no one took Koivu.
- Coach Q has begun changing the lines - Wolski playing with Arnie and Jones, Forsberg skated with Sakic.
Ryan Smyth draws a penalty another PP for the Avs. I don't even know if we should be getting excited about an Av PP anymore.
- The Avs PP is nothing but trouble . Stastny gives up the puck on the PP and Wild knock one in on a two on one. No chance for Theo. Time to put the fourth line on the PP and just have them crash the net and have the point men fire shots.
- Brunette gets dumped on Backstrom by Voros and Sakic puts the puck in. The Wild team are going nuts of all the traffic and intereference the Avs are causing on Backstrom. Good call by the Refs not to waive the goal off, no chance for Brunette to avoid the Goalie. This is exactly what the Avs need to do, charge Backstrom , you can tell they are getting to him.
-A very entertaing third period. A couple of costly give aways by the Avs, including one right at the end of regulation which is why the Wild will start the Overtime with a man advantage. The theme for the Avs continues; Another OT game with the Wild and A very ineffective Powerplay -
Joe Sakic lead the Avs with 22min18sec of icetime
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Start of OT 1
- The Wild begin on the PP. Avs throwing all bodies in front of the Wild point shots.
- Avs kill off the PP. You can begin to really sense the OT tension starting to build. ALl it takes is a bad bounce here and there!
- Huge save by Theo on Gaborik. You gotta love the effort by Sakc trying to stop him. A bigger save by Theodore on Demitra. Wow
- The Wild are taking it hard to the Avs. Colorado looks tired and really playing on their heels. They have to start playing physical and finishing every check
-Bouchard of the Wild scores the winner and MN takes a 2-1 lead in the series. It was a unlucky play, looked like it was going to be an easy icing call but it hit the back of the net and Finger went the other way and couldn't touch it in time. If Finger goes the other way, this goal isn't scored
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Avs have no time to dwell on this loss as they are back at it tomorrow night. The fear I had throughout the game did come and haunt the Avs. Having so many powerplay chances and not being able to capitalize, espescially on home ice. As a fan its frustrating because of all the talent they have. It's obviously more of a mental battle now on the PP, but in order for the Avs to get pass this series they will need the PP to be better.
Gaborik is getting close, with 9 shots tonight... It's just a matter of time..tick tock!
With over 24 minutes of ice time for Forsberg, it will be interesting to see how he does tomorrow night. Sakic played 25:25, Foote played 27:23...How will all the Veterans fair in a back-to-back situation?
