The Penguins head north this afternoon to take on the Buffalo Sabres. The Birds are hoping to bounce back from two pretty bad losses this past week...two losses that could have given the Penguins four valuable points in the Eastern Conference.
Amidst all of the Crosby to return rumors, the Penguins have got to regroup and start playing the way they were through last weekend. They were a very tough team to match up with, as they were transitioning from defense to offense seamlessly, taking a ton of shots, clearing rebounds and getting to every loose puck. Their goaltending was solid and they were getting production from up and down the line-up.
None of those things were true about losses to the Bruins and Hurricanes, where the Penguins looked lethargic and disinterested.
This is the third match up between the two teams this season, with the Penguins having taken the first two over a 4 day span between December 29 and January 1st. This is the first meeting since the Amp NHL Winter Classic, where the Penguins and Sabres rang in the new year in style.
The Sabres are 7-1-2 over their last 10 games and have been playing some good hockey. The Penguins, 5-4-1 over their last 10, have been doing pretty well themselves, aside from their past two losses.
We will be going live with the Penguins Hockey Buzzcast @ 3:00pm...hopefully you can join us prior to watching the Penguins/Sabres match up...will have a post game blog up later tonight.
By the way...I am standing by my earlier comments about Crosby returning at some point over the next 10 days...I cannot see him going tonight and I have found no one willing to even speculate about that. As I stated in my last blog, Sid never ceases to amaze me, but he just went through his first full practice and though he could probably go right now, would probably err on the side of caution.
More later...

Thanks to Garth for being our eyes in Buffalo.
As reported in my blog and on the Buzzcast today, no Sid in the line-up. He is very close, but not that close. Look for the kid to get some additional full practices under his belt before getting back within the next 10 days to 2 weeks...
