THE ABSOLUTE LATEST ON SUNDIN.
Tons of rumours swirling about Sundin tonight. Crazy all over the map rumours....Will he or won't he waive his NTC, where is he going, etc?
Well tonight I talked to a very solid source who flat out said to me that, "Sundin will waive his NTC if Fletcher asks him to, but he is trusting Fletcher to only ask him to if he makes a trade that will make the team better for his return next season."
I was also told that Cliff Fletcher will NOT finalize anything until after the GM meetings in Florida. That looks to be where and when this deal will or won't get done according to this source who is EXTREMELY familiar with the situation.
Another source told me tonight that he was told that a "Sundin deal was in place and it was MUCH bigger than anyone expected. In fact it will be shocking to the hockey world."
Another source informed me that, "NO, it isn't done. But it is huge and the teams that are waitiing for the final shot haven't gotten that shot yet."
With some GMs you would question whether or not those teams would indeed get them that final call to ante up. But every person I have spoken to that is involved with this in any way and at any level swears that they don't worry about this with Fletcher. They trust him completely.
now back to our twelve days of the deadline...
First off tons of great offers for Vinny, but the one that made the most sense and filled the biggest need to me looking at it from both sides was trading Prospal to Vancouver for Corey Schneider and a second and a third. I was offered Salo instead, but if Tampa could afford Salo, the would keep Boyle.
