Anaheim and Niedermayer

What I wouldn't give to listen to proposed deals, that Brian Burke is being offered right now !! He has offered any d-man on his list, except Niedermayer and Pronger......... wow! Now there is some brilliant talent to be had !! Especially Beauchemin and Schneider.

Beauchemin would be my first choice,if I were Carolina, NYI, NYR, NJ, Pitt, Boston, Toronto, Fla., Chi. Phil.,Col. or Atl..... you get the idea. The list of who couldn't use him, is shorter. Beauchemin makes about $1.75 mil.. which is a bargain, for what you get. He makes strong offensive plays... has a great shot.... defends very well... and is tough. He can play ahywhere, against anybody. Any of the above-mentioned teams would look very intriguing, for the playoffs, with Francois Beaucheminmin the line-up.

Schneider has been hurt and that would be worrisome to me. Also, he signed as a free-agent, to theoretically finish his career, in apleasant climate, on a strong team that has a chance to win.. wow... doesn't every player want that ! So taking him out of that environment may affect his commitment to his new team. He made his choice to go to Anaheim... he is happy and now YOU (the new team) are taking him, perhaps a little against his will. I have often thought that many teams don't give enough consideration to the potential state of mind of a veteran player, when they wisk him away to a new environment and expect him to play the same way.

This is not a disparaging statement, directed against Mathieu Schneider. He is a terrific talent, of which, I have been a big fan, for years. It is human nature.

Any team that wants Schneider, should feel him out, to see if he is ready to turn his life upside-down, and be apart from his family, that is nicely settled in SO. CAL....... when he is realistically going to play another year and retire, and then try to imagine themselves, in that situation. Would you get full value.... would he ?? Players who end up feeling like mercenaries are never as effective as you want them to be.

Meanwhile, if Brian Burke can swing a deal for a scoring forward, this deal could easily be much more than a one-for-one, or a one-for a- draft pick deal. When you try to move important players, the deals often become much bigger, and involve multiple players...... changing the complexion of both teams completely...... (or do I hear three teams ???!!)

This promises to be very interesting and perhaps open the doors for other deals. Several teams are hurting and should not wait until the trade deadline. I am more and more convinced, each year, that deadline deals happen too late for teams to absorb their new talent. Pull the trigger NOW..... the opportunity is staring you in the face !!....................
