According to a report today by Aftonbladet's Tomas Ros, there will be meeting tomorrow in Stockholm to consider whether Sweden will continue to participate in the current transfer agreement with the NHL.

Club directors and Swedish Hockey League officials will be discussing this issue, along with the league playing schedule for next season. According to the report, the Swedes have until Jan 1, 2008 to cancel their participation in the transfer agreement.

Among others, Färjestad general manager Håkan Loob spoke out against the current agreement.

Loob told Ros, "The majority in the Hockey League think the new agreement is too unfavorable. ...It's a catastrophe that the NHL [clubs] must decide within two year whether or not to sign a player. What it means is that more [players] get NHL contracts and disappear from Elitserien. ...Without a transfer agreement, only contract-less players can disappear to the NHL. There's a lot of positives in it. Then we would have more control over the player market."

League official Peter Gudmundson conceded that "generally the majority in Elitserien are not pleased with the new agreement" but added that "I see both disadvantages and advantages to having an agreement."

Gudmondson said that the meeting tomorrow will be important in determining how Swedish hockey will set its course in managing its relationship with the NHL.

The IIHF plans a leadership meeting on Friday.
