From the USA Today….

With the Montreal Canadiens playing the Boston Bruins in the Winter Classic at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., on New Year's Day, there has been considerable discussion about the romance of the Original Six Era, which ended in 1967 with the addition of six more teams. That made us wonder what the NHL would look like today if there were only six teams.

We picked a panel of six former NHL players, coaches and general managers — Craig Button (Boston Bruins), Eddie Olczyk (Chicago Blackhawks), Doug MacLean (Detroit Red Wings), Pierre McGuire (Montreal Canadiens), Tom Laidlaw (New York Rangers) and Neil Smith (Toronto Maple Leafs) — to use today's players to fill up the rosters of our new six-team league.

So of course I couldn't leave it there! We needed to see how these teams would actually do against each other, so I put the players into NHL 16 and I am simulating a tournament that will see each team play each other twice and the top 4 make the playoffs…

The games can all be seen on Twitch.TV/hockeybuzzcast….or below..
